“Ms. D’s ex-huband Vic Sotto suplado sa kasal ni Danica”

The most important fringe benefit of being a character actor is the rare opportunity to rob elbows with the stars and get to know what they have in their minds and souls. I was able to “avail” of this fringe benefit during my last taping day for “Babangon Ako’t Dudurugin Kita”.

During lunch time, after the hair stylist of Miss Dina Bonnevie decided to continue doing Miss D’s hair after the lunch break, Miss D was in a very jovial mode when she joined us for lunch. She was in the mood to share with us her exciting experience as an expectant grandmother to her daughter Danica’s upcoming baby. Yup, Danica is now five months pregnant!

Miss D started sharing to us how Bossing Vic Sotto “behaved” during the wedding of Danica and basketball player Mark Pingris of Purefoods which incidentally is up against Sta. Lucia Realty for the finals of the Philippine Basketball Association.

Bossing Vic was very “suplado” during the entire wedding ceremony and even during the reception! When Dina introduced the parents of Mark to Vic, Vic simply nodded but did not oblige to smile and make  even a small talk with his “balaes”. Vic did not even bother to socialize with the other guests! Miss D approached him to at least be good to Mark’s parents so that if the newly-weds will have problems later, at least they would become familiar with Mark’s parents and therefore can talk with them on the matter. Bossing Vic retorted that he would not talk to them if God forbids that time will come. In his “bad mood” Bossing Vic later in the reception was finally left alone in his table still unmindful of the rest of the wedding guests. Ms. D approached him again and told him that he should have brought Pia so that he would not be left alone. Bossing Vic replied that Pia had a bum stomach that is why she could not come. Ms. D left him again with a word, “sorry ka na lang”.  Ms. D told us she did not join him in his solitude, as she was with my boyfriend  in a separate table. Ms. D only realized why Bossing Vic was so aloof the whole time when it was Bossing Vic’s turn to dance with Danica, he was already sobbing like a baby boy! Bossing Vic was so affected with the marriage of his baby Danica. Danica is close to Bossing Vic being his favorite!

While Ms. D was talking about it, I was touched realizing that I also have two daughters with boyfriends now and would anytime might also get married! How will I act during their weddings? Will I do a Vic Sotto? It would be too early to say if I would or would not until I will be in the same  situation myself! But one thing is sure, it would not be easy for a father to accept the fact that your daughter will already be getting married!

I am reminded of the song from “Fiddler On The Roof” – “Sunrise, Sunset.” To a parent, a son or a daughter will always be that young life growing and blossoming with the years. I am sure many of you grandparents still refer to your offspring, who are parents themselves, as “mga bata” or “the children.” I know I do. We see in our children what was once our past; just as the young ones see in us a vision of the future.
Ooops! Sorry, I got carried away na naman.
