Six year ago, I had the chance to act opposite brilliant actress Pilar Pilapil in the telenovela “Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggang” which starred Claudine Barretto and directed by Wenn Deramas. I played the role of Pilar’s lawyer whom she had ordered killed later for knowing too much about her illegal activities.

Yesterday, I had worked again with MISS PILAR PILAPIL – this time in the latest Angel Locsin-Piolo Pascual starrer ”LOBO”.  This time, I am very proud to say that I was made to act by our Director Eric Reyes! Unlike in the first time that I had appeared with Ms. Pilapil where the role of a Lawyer required simple acting, this time I had to undergo an on-the-set acting mini-workshop with no less that Director Eric Reyes as the workshop master assisted by Ms. Pilar Pilapil! This was done to make sure that the scenes of Ms. Pilapil would come out effectively!

All the while, I thought that this latest assignment was another walk in the park, but as soon as Direk Eric called us to join him on the set for our take, he immediately asked us if we had read the script. I answered that only the scenes that I am suppose to act and was in the schedule for that day’s taping. Direk Eric explained to us “na may pinanggalingan ang eksena na kukunan namin.”

After giving us the background of the scene that we were about to shoot, Direk Eric told me that he wanted me to give the exact facial acting required for the specific emotion that I was suppose to give in the scene.

Without giving away to you the details, Ms. Pilapil is our leader as “mga nagpapalit anyo tuwing kabilugan ng buwan at nagiging Lobo”. Lobo is the Filipino word for wolf.

Direk Eric instructed me that I should provide support to Ms. Pilapil by giving her the right acting so that in return Ms. Pilapil can deliver the right reaction.”Right acting” for Direk is not theatre acting, not over acting, no awkward mannerism and sustained energy.

Next, I was required by Direk Eric to do jumping jack and jogging in place so that I will be prepared physiologically. He emphasized that for me to deliver the acting that he wants me to do, I should be prepared physically.

Then came my delivery of my lines. Of course, my accent was a big problem. Direk wanted me to take away my accent.

Finally, we had a take for the first scene. The first scene I had with Ms. Pilapil was only take 3. For the second scene we had take 7 all because Direk Eric was not satisfied with my acting! The third scene that I had with Ms. Pilapil was a take 3.

My scenes with Ms. Pilar Pilapil were aired last week. I hope that you had the chance to watch me “acting” opposite Ms. Pilapil!

  4. Dear Kristell:

Thanks for your visit! Yup, Pilar is one of the brilliant actors we have. Yung pinag usapan namin ng cobat ko na si Aris, is not Pilar, its me. Gaya kasi ni Pilar, cebuano di ako, although si Pilar wala nang accent, ako mayron pa, but who cares? Global na tayo! just watch Pinoy Big Brother where the cebuano speaking are lording it over the tagalogs!

    regards,

    egay
