“Getting a Bit Role in Dyesebel”
As a freelance character actor, I humbly believe that I have an edge over my comrades in the industry who are tied up with a management contract with a talent manager. Take this instance: last week, I missed a booking arranged by Ces for Dyesebel suppose to be for a role as Bianca King’s dad. In a matter of days, last saturday however, I was successfully booked by Jenny, another talent supplier for a bit role in Dyesebel. The past nine years that I spent with the showbiz industry as a character actor earned me a number of friends/contacts including talent managers/suppliers and production staff that regularly give me bookings for roles in the movies, tv shows produced by competing networks.
The calltime was at 3:00 p.m. last 17 May. However, at 11:00 a.m., Jenny texted me that the calltime was moved earlier and I was advised to be at the GMA 11th Jamboree St. gate at 12:00 noon. I advised Jenny that the earliest time I could be at the GMA compound will be at 12:30 p.m. Since the taping was in Subic, I decided to leave my car and instead joined the talents in the service vehicle that took us to Subic. It turned out the talents caretaker, Bryan just wanted all the talents to be at the meeting place early so he moved the call time to 12:00 noon. When I arrived GMA at 12:30 p.m., I was still able to eat lunch at the GMA canteen since the vehicle was not yet there. We finally left at 3:00 p.m. because we have to wait for other talents to arrive.
PAG-ASA ( weather bureau) advised that typhoon signal number 3 was raised over Zambales (including Subic of course) brought about by typhoon Cosme. But the taping was on-going at the Sea Port Building when we arrived at 5:30 p.m. after the service vehicle passed in a breeze on the new Subic-Clark Expressway. Actually, the driver took the San Fernando to Bataan road but only went inside the new expressway at the entrance 18 kilometers to Subic. The expressway was a delight to view as an engineering work!
When I went inside the ground floor hallway of the Sea Port Building, it was filled with talents in their formal wear. Everybody was sitting on the floor, there were no chairs to sit on in the hallway which served as the waiting area. I decided to go out in the covered parking lot which served as the cooking area for the caterer, eating area for everybody and extension of the stand by area. I was able to get a monobloc chair and I stayed in one corner enjoying the strong wind that had intensified further as the hours went by.
A talent already dressed in a security guard costume joined me. Ricky Davao walked in front of us. The talent security guard commented that Ricky Davao must have been bored already since he was on the set early morning yet but he was not called for a take even for once. Later, Marian Rivera – Dyesebel wearing a janitress uniform passed by and went to the caterer and asked for the afternoon merienda. A few minutes later, I saw Bianca King joined her mom in their white pajero parked in front of us.
