“Another Kind of Shooting”
I am a proud member of the SSS Shooters Association, Inc. As such, and in order that I will be eligible to participate in all Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA) Level II and III sanctioned matches, I am also a bonafide member of the PPSA.
Before you would start to ask yourself if you are still reading an article by Edgar M. Sandalo or this is already by another author or if I am still talking about shooting for a movie or a different thing, let me assure you, you are still reading an article written by Edgar M. Sandalo although this time I would not be discussing about shooting for a movie but I would be talking about another kind of shooting – shooting with a gun!
Yes, last Saturday, I came from another kind of shooting. Our SSS Shooters Association, Inc. had its 3rd Practical Shooting Tournament in Camp Karingal Shooting Range, Sikatuna, Quezon City.
Since I became a member of the SSS Shooters Association, Inc. a few years ago, last Saturday’s tournament was my first tournament. I was not able to participate in the two earlier tournaments for two reasons: during the first tournament, I had a taping for a TV show and I have not yet bought a rig or a gun tournament holster which is a very important requirement in a shooting tournament for all participants to insure gun safety in the firing range.
Last saturday however, I was ready. I had a made to order rig. I attended a gun safety seminar conducted by our Association one day before the tournament.
On the day of the tournament itself, I was very much excited. I was already at the Camp Karingal Firing Range five minutes before the scheduled 8 a.m. registration time. I had with me my CZ caliber 380, 130 rounds of ammunition, my tournament gun holster, ear muff, eye protector goggle, cap and a towel for the perspiration.
I registered under the Production Division since my gun is a caliber 380. Included in our Division are participants with guns with caliber lower than calibers 45 and 40. Participants with caliber 45 and 40 pistols were registered under the Standard Division. The registration included signing in the registration form and filling up the tournament card. After registering, since I was a member of the Uniform Committee, I helped in the distribution of the uniforms to the participants. We had invited guests shooters for the tournament. The most prominent ones were Quezon City Prosecutor Lido and a lady shooter from Armscor.
