“Theatre Soprano Jean Judith Javier shines in Kolorete”
The independent film “ KOLORETE’ which is one of the seven grantees of the Cinema One Originals for 2008 topbills Soprano Jean Judith Javier.
To theatre enthusiasts, the name Jean Judith Javier is very familiar. Last February 13 to March 2 2008, she played the role of Gulnara in “Orosman at Zafira” a part of the 1st International Komedya Fiesta of the UP Centennial Celebration. It was staged at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater, 2nd floor, Palma Hall, UP Diliman Quezon City. It was Dulaang UP’s presentation of a Filipino classic about love, honor and war by Francisco Baltazar.
A gifted natural soprano, Judith plays the lead role of Asuncion, a well-travelled Manilena who volunteered as a church worker in the parish of a friar – Padre Antarez, my role in “Kolorete”.
I was very fortunate to have worked with Judith in this film. As I mentioned in an earlier blog entry, without her knowing it, Judith retrained and re-indoctrinated me on the discipline of theatre actors, on the real meaning of an actor’s commitment, on an actor’s determination to do everything, to sacrifice if needed, in fulfilling the tasks being assigned as one’s share in the completion of a collective work of art!
How? In one of our shootings in Biak na Bato, San Miguel, Bulacan, we experienced a heavy rain which lasted for more than one hour. The rained forced us to call off shooting the remaining scenes and move it the next day. I started to worry with so many things that I whispered to Judith that I wanted to have our scenes together to be prioritized because I had a very important office activity the next day (well, it was SSS Foundation Anniversary!)
Judith told me in a very cool manner that for her it does not matter what would be the decision of the Production Staff on which scenes would be prioritized as a result of the heavy rain that disrupted the schedule of the shooting. She elaborated that since we entered into this vocation of acting, we should be ready just like a good soldier to follow what our director would say. The saying, “come hell or high water, the show must go on”, which I would hear every now and then from my peers and from my mentor TONY MABESA when I was still a teen-age theatre actor made a flashback in my mental faculty!
Aside from this great impact that Judith made a mark in me, I would never forget her powerful soprano voice in our scene where she sang a latin song for a mass inside the Nagcarlan Catholic Church while as a priest, I was preparing the Holy Communion!
I had recorded here song in my cellphone and well, had made it as one of my ringtones!
Slated for a mid Novcmber release, the period film Kolorete will definitely showcase Jean Judith Javier acting and singing prowess!
