“Ang Nakakabinging Katahimikan ng 2008 Cinema One Originals Festival”
I have been searching the net using both yahoo and google search for the Cinema One Originals 2008 for the past two weeks but I failed to come across a press release from Cinema One organizers themselves as to the details of the 2008 festival. While searching, I was able to open a poster for Kolorete, the entry where I have a major role as Padre Antarez, a friar. The poster was a photo entry of Jean Judith Javier in her Facebook account. It is a very nice poster dominated by a profile of Jean Judith Javier (Asuncion) – the central character of the story. Asuncion is Kolorete. Find out for yourself why!
I also came across a website of another entry for the festival, UPCAT which I really got very interested in. Well, the very reason is the fact that I am PEYUPS myself! Really, the synopsis of the film and the trailer motivated me to write about it. I just hope that my feeling is also shared by non-UP graduates. UPCAT for the information of non-UP graduates is that elusive entrance examination to gain admission to the school of the dreams of many – the University of the Philippines. The film deals on three aspiring high school graduates who prepared hard to pass the UPCAT, each one has different reason, different motivation for taking the exam. Bembol Roco and Mark Gil played the roles of the fathers of the two UPCAT takers. As the trailer played on YouTube, I immediately recognized that the location is not UP Diliman but UP Los Banos, my campus for five years! Yes!, I am going to watch this film myself! The website announced a set of dates for the festival as 16 to 28 November 2008 for the school campus run and 03 to 10 December 2008 for the theatre run at the Robinson’s Galleria.
An entry on yahoosearch led me to website that said that the awarding ceremony will be on November 28. But, it is not the official website of the Cinema One originals so I really doubt if it so.
My eagerness to get the details on the Cinema One Originals Festival 2008 pushed me to be glued to Cinema One cable station itself, that is, if I have the time to watch TV after work. Last Saturday, I was able to catch a trailer for the Festival. It has scenes of the seven entries with a voice over saying that the festival will be shown in school campuses nationwide SOON. But, again, not much details were given.
Last Sunday evening, on Cinema One cable, there was a preview of a movie in the making which featured Yanggaw, another Festival entry. When it was direk Richard Somes who was interviewed, I remembered that I went to audition for the film. However, when it was shown that the lead stars are Joel Torre, Ronnie Lazaro an Techie Agbayani, I realized that the major roles went to these popular actors and that those who went audition did not get the majors roles. Again, not much details on the festival!
Even as I was having breakfast this morning with a Philip Salvador and Rosanna Roces old movie showing on Cinema One, there were no other details about the festival that were flashed on the screen. The teaser for the Judy Ann Santos was repeatedly shown instead!
If indeed the 2008 Cinema One Originals 2008 Festival is going to start on Sunday, barely less than a week from now, why is it so silent in the net, on Cinema One cable and even in the print media? Just asking. Kailan ba talaga?
