“Investor and Politics”
For our third and fourth taping days for “May Bukas Pa”, we were joined by the teleserye’s big stars. The monastery which we the 12 priests and brothers are living is part of a typical Philippine community. We interact with the local mayor – mayor Pio (played by my mentor upsilon brodTony Mabesa), a greedy investor who has a political ambition to become the next mayor (played by Albert Martinez) and his wife (Dina Bonnevie). We also have a couple who are both members of the police force (played by Tonton Gutierrez and Lara Quigaman). Maja Salvador, Rayver Cruz, Desiree del Valle, gossip writer Ogie Diaz and Arlene Muchlach are also in the cast.
We had big scenes like a mass to celebrate the town fiesta with all the lead stars and the entire community attending and the wake of an influential person painstakingly supervised by director Jerome Pobocan. Director Jojo Saquing is directing the second unit. Director Jerome is ably assisted by Assistant Directors Gary, Carlo. Director Jojo has Assistant Director Myla as his assistant.
Rosselle Soldao our Executive Producer and Cath Magdael our Associate Producer are always ready to provide our needs on the set and even during breaktime.
Working with the big stars is always fun since we already had previously worked before. For instance, I had worked with Tonton in Pangako Sa ‘Yo. Lately, I had worked with Tonton and Dina Bonnevie for Babangon Ako at Dudurugin Kita.
In the case of Albert Martinez, I had worked with him in the project which I considered as a major exposure for me – “Maria Flordeluna”. I played the role of a corrupt military general in Flordeluna while Albert played an honest military man.
This time however, Albert is doing a bad guy role: an investor with intention of entering the politics to be able to push his business interests. I recalled having worked with Albert for a movie “Ika 13 Kapitulo” where he played the role of a devil. I must admit that the fan in me would like to watch Albert as an anti hero rather than the good guy. Here in “May Bukas Ba” I hope that I will be able to see him at his best in a bad guy role.
“May Bukas Pa” is definitely airing starting February 2 – the feast day of Our Lady of Candles (Candelaria) the patron saint of our neighboring town in Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte. I hope that you will watch not only the opening night but that you will make it part of our weeknights. I play the role of a priest – Father Jude together with our Father Superior Father Anton (Jaime Fabregas), our co-priests Father Jose (Dominic Ochoa) Father Ringgo (Lito Pimentel).
from California…..I enjoyed reading all what you wrote about your May Bukas Pa co-stars and about the history of the chuch.So much important information I learned from you .It is really GOD’s prividence that lead ABS-CBN to choose San Guillermo church.This is the best teleserye ever made! I will be giving away lots of DVDs of the episodes to friends.I hope they come with English subtittles so that my Americans and Canadian friends will understand. Thanks to you and most of all to Bro.

ah yeah i remember na po, ung role nyo sa Maria Flordeluna, isa ren pala sa very few soaps na nasubaybayan ko po..and correct me if im wrong po, ung role nyo po is namatay di ba po? yeah i can still remember kasi im praying at that time wag mamatay ung character na yun kasi nga po may bigote po..hahaha, i know its mababaw pero para kasi reminds me of my father po tlaga..anyway ang galing po ng performance neo don if tama ako sa pagkakatanda ko po.,nice blog po.,im reading it all:)

Yup, ako nga yung general na yun! unlike sa few lines ko now dito sa May Bukas Pa, sa Flordeluna, nahirapan naman ako sa haba ng mga lines ko dun! Maraming Salamat!
