“David Chua: Up Close and Personal with Father Chi”

    DAVID CHUA’s first TV appearance was in  “My Girl” as a fil-chinese brother of Alex Gonzaga. The  top-rated show which was also under the helm of Direk Jerome Chavez-Pobocan paved the way for the viewing public’s recognition and the attention from ABS-CBN on David Chua.

    This third year fine arts college student of University of Santo Tomas had to temporarily stop schooling in favor of a good exposure in the latest top-rated teleserye “May Bukas Pa”.  In this second TV appearance of David Chua, he is playing the role of the monastery’s treasurer, giving him more significant exposure considering that there are 12 priests characters in the series.

    When we were first introduced among ourselves, I noticed  David Chua as a cool  Chinese looking young man. He is a man of few words, yes, he talks less but if ever he talks, he is very soft-spoken

    Physically, just like Victor Basa and Lito Pimentel, David is into serious weight-lifting program giving him a good physique..

    However, there is one characteristic of David that is patently his own: he loves to sleep! In moments that he does not have a take, he is quick to hit the bed and easily  dozes himself to dreamland!  I really envy David because of this capability to get a good rest in between takes!

    Another peculiar capability of David is his penchant to quickly drive to Manila in instances that it is announced that we will have a long stand by period. Well, since driving to Manila is only 45 minutes, he usually back on the set because the production staff calls our attention for another take! 

    Last week however, David just like a normal human being, was down with the flu. He was not able to report for two taping days because of the sickness. He was back to work after a good rest.

    Philippine showbiz surely have a new talent in David Chua. Since there is a paucity of young actors who are Chinese-looking, David has the edge over the other mestizo looking young actors (half Spanish, half American). David Chua comes in the like of Kim Chui as a novelty item, providing the much needed variety of showbiz faces.

    Let us watch David Chua as he makes his presence felt in the  Philippine TV and movie scene!
