Part of my contract with ABS-CBN for the role that I play in May Bukas Pa states that, “Talent shall attend…all promotional and merchandising campaigns, activities or events…” Accordingly, management informed me that I will be joining the mall tours for the promotion of Santino art/coloring and comic books currently on-going in selected SM Malls.

“When the MBP Priests Met the real Priests at the CMMA”

May Bukas Pa cast led by Zaijian Jaranilla accepted the special citation given by CMMA

A month ago, I received a text message from Ms. Beegee Soldao,  Executive Producer of ABS-CBN’s “May Bukas Pa” (MBP). She asked if I would be available to attend the 31st Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) on October 14, 2009. She added that MBP will receive a Special Award from the CMMA. All of the MBP “priests” together with Zaijian Jaranilla (Santino) will receive the Special Award for the show. I immediately texted her back that I am available on that day.

A day before the 31st CMMA, there were no details yet as to what we will wear, where will the venue be at what time are we suppose to be at the venue.  In my excitement, I texted Beegee for details. I also texted Jaime Fabregas and Dominic Ochoa if they had already received text messages on these.

“Typhoon Ondoy: A Great Teacher – Part 2″

The Philippines had experienced its worst flooding in history courtesy of typhoon Ondoy. The experts said that the down pour last Saturday (26 September 2009) during the 8-hour of continuous rains was equivalent to the total average rainfall for one month. Places like Marikina City specifically Provident Village, the towns of Cainta and Taytay in Rizal Province were flooded with waters as high as the roof of houses with second floors. All the while I thought that driving through flooded streets in Lagro, Quezon City was already a nightmare but I realized it paled in comparison to what the household of my officemates had gone through: spending 12 hours in the second floor of their house in North Fairview SSS Employees Housing as the floodwaters reached the ceiling of their first floor and subsided only after 12 hours!  By this time, I am sure you had read numerous testimonies about near death  experiences during the flooding of Metro Manila or must have watched television video clips on the extend of the damage. I feel it is no longer necessary to write about it. I would rather write about the brighter side of this worst calamity: the lessons that I learned from the experience and I will attempt to provide answers to questions asking why the massive flooding happened.

Let me continue with my reflection on the lessons that Typhoon Ondoy taught me. What were the causes for such an abnormally heavy rainfall brought by the typhoon? Strangely, unlike typhoon Melenyo  (September 2007) which was packing strong winds causing death to many as it toppled man-made giant advertisement billboards but with less rainfall, typhoon Ondoy was not coupled with strong winds, purely rainfall.
