“Jamming at the Pin-Up Bistro (PUB)”

Last friday,11 December 2009,  I was invited by the Planning Service of the Department of Agriculture to their  Christmas party.  I was once the Service Director of the Planning Service before I transferred to the Social Security System. The party dubbed as Glitters in Christmas as held at the 8th Floor of the Torre de Venizia along Timog Avenue. Zinnia, who was my Secretary when I was the Director, requested me to bring along with me Santino (Zaijian Jaranilla) and  Mayor (Albert Martinez) to the party. Instead of the two lead stars, I brought my  kababayan co-actor Pinoy Big Brother Big winner Ruben Gonzaga to the party. On our way to the venue, I saw Michael Conan, another co-actor playing the role of a police named Dante. He came from a shop at the Victoria Towers condo.

Ruben was so game to offer himself to be the host of the Videoke Singing Contest of the party. He also joined me and Patty as judges of the Best in Costume Couple contest. You see as the party was dubbed “Glitters in,Chrismas, the dress code of the party was strictly formal. Assuch, the women wore gowns while the most of the men wore coat and tie and a few wore barong tagalog.

After the party, I brought Ruben to the Music Box Sing-Along Bar for a bottle of beer. After we finished the beer, Ruben suggested that we move to the Pin-Up Bistro owned by Michael Conan who I met earlier. It is located nearby at 86 Panay Avenue, Barangay South Triangle, Quezon City.

I must admit I never regretted with my decision to agree with Ruben to move to Pin-Up Bistro. The experience of being at the Pin Up for the first time was the best night cap I ever had. When we arrived the place, there were two groups occupying two opposite tables: the first group were as Mike introduced to us, his friends who are all musicians. A guy was playing the keyboard and singing a soft rock music. Another guy was introduced by Mike as another keyboard artist who likes the music of the Beatles.  Two other guys were guitarists.

The guys occupying the opposite table were also musicians. Ruben and I occupied a table in between the two tables.

It goes without saying that I had a grand time singing with the guys. It was when the keyboard artist who loves the music of the Beatles was playing the keyboard when I stood up after Mike prodded  me to sing with the boys. I sang an old song “Because” which was popularized by Cliff Richard and Obladi-Oblada! Ruben sang some rock songs.

The Pin-Up is highly recommended to guys who simply want to hang around and sing with real musicians playing real instruments. Unlike the canned music of a videoke bar, singing with live music is a different experience!

For the regular videoke guys, Pin-Up is a welcome change to the highly commercialized canned music. Besides, the price of the beer and the pulutan is very affordable. You would surely feel at home at the Pin-Up Bistro.

To locate the place, if you are along Timog, turn to Panay Avenue going to Edsa. It is located some 300meters from Timog. For details, you may call 02-6924977.

             Jamming na!
