My Many Firsts While Doing Rosalka

Blessings continue to pour on me. I would always regard my appearance in the all-time top rater “May Bukas Pa” as the biggest break I ever had. But, the series of new projects that I got after MBP aired its final episode last February is simply God’s amazing blessings on me. I got a meaty role as Mayor Gusti in Precious Hearts Romances “Lumang Piso Para sa Puso” under the direction of Direk Rechie del Carmen, played an eye surgeon of Ronnie in “Agua Bendita”, played as father of Valerie Concepcion in “Momay” and currently I am playing as Atty. Gonzales in “Rosalka”.

Working for Rosalka gave me several firsts. On my first taping day for Rosalka, I had 19 sequences (all with long lines) of the total of 45 sequences scheduled for taping! I was overwhelmed! It was the first time that I had that much sequences to be taped in a day for an afternoon teleserye for ABS-CBN. About seven years ago, I appeared as the lead actor for an episode of “Ang Pangarap Kong Jackpot” for the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office aired over NBN Channel 4 and for an episode of “NBI Files” for the National Bureau of Investigation aired over RPN 9 where I taped from early morning till the early dawn of the next day but those shows were once a week shows and with very limited viewership. These will never come near in comparison to a teleserye in ABS-CBN.

It was my first time to tape inside the Correctional for Women in Mandaluyong City. Working inside the compound of the prison for women as a very unique experience. It gave me the opportunity to learn first hand about the lives of convicted women.

It was my first time to be directed by three talented directors namely Jeffrey Jeturian, Rechie del Carmen and Mervyn Brondial. Direk Jeffrey and Direk Rechie were alternately taking charge of unit 1 while direk Mervyn directed the 2nd unit which was a back pack unit.

It was the first time that a Fight Instructor taught me a very long fight routine for the scenes where Johnny (Juntin Cuyugan) and myself were attacked by a hired goon. I had been taught by Fight Instructors in my past assignments but this time, my fight routine was very long! It was a coincidence that two weeks after we taped the fight sequence, I was in a real life drama hold up inside an internet cafe. During the hold up when the hold up man pointed a gun in me, I really wished that it was only a taping where there was a director who would shout CUT!

It was the first time that I played the role of a lawyer from the Public Attorney’s Office. I had played as lawyer for many shows in the past but most of those were as a lawyer from a big private law firm. Playing a PAO lawyer is a different thing since as we know, PAO lawyers get relatively low salary but they are very dedicated in their work. I always have it in mind to portray this role with the end in view of dignifiying the PAO lawyers.

It was the first time that I worked simultaneously with another teleserye. Yes, I have to do “lagare” between to sets, the second project is still in the pilot stage and have not started airing yet! Promise, as soon as it I will have a go signal to start writing about the new show, I will immediately write about it here! In between the tapings of these two shows are my regular office work the preparation for a golf tournament and for the coming SSS Anniversary! But, I am not complaining! I am simply enjoying these blessings that are coming my way! Now you understand why I have not written a new blog entry for almost one month!

I hope that you are enjoying my appearance in Rosalka and that you will also love my appearance in the coming new teleserye that I am currently doing!
